Help Stop the Proposal to Kill Local Redevelopment — Protect Jobs and Our Local Economy.
As part of its 2011-12 budget proposal, the Administration has proposed permanently shutting down local redevelopment agencies in California. A broad coalition of local governments, business and labor, environmental leaders, affordable housing advocates and community groups all oppose the proposal to kill redevelopment.
This proposal:
- Will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs, tens of billions of dollars in local economic development projects, and billions in tax revenues to state and local governments.
- Represents the same old State budget tactic of raiding local government funds that voters have repeatedly voted to prevent.
- Over 61% of voters passed Prop. 22 this past November to stop State raids of redevelopment funds.
- Will not provide any State budget relief after redevelopment agency bond and other contractual obligations are repaid.
- Violates numerous state and federal constitutional provisions
